Star Wars: The Old Republic : Datacrons: Love ‘Em or Leave ‘Em?

In his latest column devoted to Star Wars: The Old Republic, MMORPG.com Community Manager Mike Bitton takes a look at new information revealed about Datacrons. Datacrons are hard to find but exciting discoveries for the Codex lore boost as well as a permanent stat boost. See what else Mike thinks about Datacrons and then let us know your thoughts.
One of the fans attending the UK Community Event uncovered one of BioWare’s nods to explorers in Star Wars: The Old Republic: Datacrons. Datacrons are located throughout each of the game’s worlds and according to BioWare’s Daniel Erickson are quite difficult to find. The upside is if you put in the effort to secure these Datacrons you’ll be treated with some nice bonus lore for your codex and for those of you who can’t be arsed to care about that bit, you’ll also receive a permanent bonus to your statistics.

Star Wars: The Old Republic : An Announcement of an Announcement

In this week's Star Wars: The Old Republic column, Mike Bitton takes a look at the recent announcement that BioWare will be... er, making an announcement at this week's San Diego Comic-Con.
An announcement of an announcement? Have we come to that point? A number of our readers balked at the news, and while I must admit I personally found the notion amusing, it was altogether innocuous. I do understand that the hype level for Star Wars: The Old Republic is at a fever pitch, but some cryptic wording to get people buzzing about an upcoming show is really no big deal. The much more fun part is the buzzing itself!

Star Wars: The Old Republic : Announcement of the Announcement of Release?

According to a new interview with EA's Frank Gibeau, he indicates that Star Wars: The Old Republic has scored the most pre-orders of any game in the company's stable. While unwilling to be specific about any date for the game's release, Gibeau said that September should clear the murky film on EA's crystal ball enough to schedule an official release.
The company is hoping to appeal to lapsed World of Warcraft players, said Gibeau, which make up a good part of what EA sees as a healthy MMO market, though admittedly one that is hard to track.
While a launch date has not been set for Star Wars: The Old Republic, an announcement is expected to be made around September, according to Gibeau.

Star Wars: The Old Republic : PAX 2011 - That’s More Like It

After the crushing disappointment from Bioware during Gamescom earlier this month, MMORPG.com's Mike Bitton was relieved in a B-I-G way with revelations about Star Wars: The Old Republic coming out of PAX. Check out Mike's thoughts about the big news and then leave us a few comments.
Fortunately, PAX Prime was a good deal better on the latter bit. It’s almost a bit embarrassing how little it takes for an event to go from a massive disappointment in my eyes to ‘a good deal better,’ but the difference literally came within the last ten minutes of the last SW:TOR PAX panel (before the Q&A session). The showing was largely the same as Gamescom in every other way: there were demos of the Eternity Vault, PvP matches for fans to participate in, and Q&As where numerous questions on the games minutiae were answered.

Star Wars: The Old Republic : Is Fatigue Setting In?

While it's only been about two years since Star Wars: The Old Republic was announced, in many ways it feels like two decades. In today's column devoted to SWTOR, MMORPG.com Community Manager Mike Bitton wonders whether or not the wait is getting too long as there still seems no end in sight. Read on and then weigh in on the conversation in the comments.
Reading through various forums and fan comments I’m starting to sense that the fatigue is really starting to set in for some people. Has it just been too long? Or is it some weird effect of knowing the game is around the corner but not having an exact date that’s actually making people exhausted? Heck, even Game Informer recently placed Star Wars: The Old Republic at #2 of their “Fallers” section in a “Risers & Fallers” piece.

Star Wars: The Old Republic : The Smuggler Impressions

Today marks a big turning point for Star Wars: The Old Republic with a partial lift of the embargo for members of the press and we here at MMORPG.com have a full slate of articles covering the Republic side and levels 1-15 today. Managing Editor Bill Murphy has thoughts to share about the Smuggler class that you Han Solo-types will not want to miss. See what Bill thought and then leave us a few comments.
Needless to say, despite all the hubbub surrounding the game and whether it’ll be worth the wait… I want a time machine. I want to jump forward to 12/20 (or whenever early access begins) and I want to dive into the story BioWare has crafted for real. Awhile back, I wrote that SWTOR’s Story Would Change Questing Forever. I absolutely still believe this, now more than ever. Playing SWTOR is like playing one really long, massively multiplayer version of any BioWare RPG. The acting is top-notch, the visuals are fantastic (though perhaps an acquired taste), and the music and sound effects make the whole thing feel like one of the films. If you’re not sucked into the narrative the team is crafting here, then you probably just don’t like Star Wars. I can’t think of any other reason. I don’t know… maybe you don’t like things that are fun and engaging. It’s you we’re talking about, so you tell me!
